Question:
Why Did We Change From Shrine to Avalon Hollywood for the April
2006 Award Show?

Question: Who is
producing the Live Action Role Playing Awards (LARPIES)?
Answer: The LARPY Awards are being
produced by Joseph Valenti, David Ballard, John Ryan Jr., and Mitch Meconi. NERO International has agreed to support the entire LARP
industry in this endeavor by inviting all LARP Companies and Groups to support
submissions by their player base. NERO International has
these
responsibilities. The TV production company has agreed to produce the award
show in Los Angeles CA, and the promoter is promoting the show.
Question: What
exactly is NERO International's responsibility?
Answer: NERO International is responsible for attracting all of the LARP
associations in the world LARP Groups to support the LARP Awards, act as the liaison
between all the LARP associations and our production partners, support the
businesses and products of the LARP Award sponsors, maintaining the
https://www.larpyawards.com web site, and
coordinate the submission and judging process for entries submitted by
candidates.
Question: When are
submissions being accepted?
Answer: For 2011 and years
thereafter, we shall accept submissions from May 15th to January 15th of the
following year. Currently we do not
want to accept submissions for the current year until after we have produced the
previous years show though this may change in years ahead. For 2005, we accepted submissions between September 01, 2005
and April 07, 2006.
Question: What are
the Categories for the LARP Awards?
Answer: In 2006 we will add several new categories. See Here!
Question:
When will new categories be added?
Answer: We will add just about any category provided it is appropriate to LARP
and/or Cosplay. However, we must receive a minimum of 10 Entries for the new
category to be included in the years award show.
Question:
Will the LARP Award show be broadcast on TV?
Answer: Our production partner is currently negotiating the broadcast
rights, so at present we’re not sure if the LARPies will be televised this
year. But if they’re not broadcast this year, we’ll do everything in our power
to make sure it happens next year! That said, the event will always be
videotaped by professional camera crews, and a DVD will always be produced for
subsequent sale on the www.NEROLARP.com
and www.LARPYAWARDS.com websites.
Question: Will the
LARP Awards be held each year?
Answer: Yes. Submissions will be accepted each year from May 1st until
December 31st each year beginning 2006. Since this is the first year of the
LARPies, it has taken a while for us to “ramp up,” which is why the submission
period is a little shorter this year.
Question: Will NERO
International utilize non-NERO personnel to help with the judging process?
Answer: Yes, NERO International will utilize non-NERO persons to make
judging decisions. If you are interested in being one of those individuals, and
own a LARP Business, e-mail Joseph Valenti at
[email protected]
Question:
Will there be a LARP Awards for 2006 in 2007?
Answer: Yes, the LARP Awards will run every year from now on, and will
always be open to all LARP businesses and organizations.
Question:
Does my submission have to be from 2006, or can i submit something that
I have previous to that?
Answer: While we prefer to have submissions that are year 2006 created,
we will accept non-2006 submissions again this year.
Question: Will any LARP associations from outside America (Canada or
Europe) submit an entry?
Answer: Yes. We have already been contacted by at least 2, if no 3,
non-American LARP associations that will be submitting entries.
Question: We Operate a Haunted House Company, can we enter our Sets and
Costumes and Monsters?
Answer: If you operate some sort of Live Action Role Play game, or operate
Live Adventures, then we encourage you to submit your sets and costumes and
monster videos and photo's. I would think that currently a Haunted House Show is
not a LARP and does not operate Live Adventures but we are willing to help you
develop your Interactive Tavern and/or LARP Play area as an affiliate of the
Live Adventures Company using
Puzzles, Riddles, Mysteries and sometimes even
Boffer sword combat.
QUESTION: UCLA Enigma members have run close to 100 live games in its
history, and almost every one is different (different genre, mechanics, GM,
players, setting, costumes, tone, etc.). I would like to enter some of our best
games into the LARPies, but am a little unsure of the best way to do that.
Should we send you a video clip? Still photos? Text explanation? Props?
ANSWER: It says on the https://www.larpyawards.com frontpage - "To be considered, please
send a VHS videotape, DVD, CD-Rom, and/or Still Photo of you and/or your group
in action... ". Taking that into consideration, I would say that Video is the
best type of entry (Either on VHS, DVD, or CD-rom, e-mail/ftp-upload (coming
soon)), Still Photo's are absolutely fine and we encourage you to send more than
just one of the person who is being submitted. Now, with each submission, there
should be some sort of written Text Explanation to go along with it, so that we
can have some knowledge of the scenario should your pictures be chosen to be the
ones show at the award show.
QUESTION: Has anyone else from UCLA Enigma contacted you? (Or mentioned
Enigma?) I don't want to repeat any work they are doing.
ANSWER: From UCLA Enigma, we have only thus far been contacted by Aaron
Vanek. Enigma is UCLA's 20 year old science fiction, fantasy, horror and gaming
fan club.
QUESTION: What
About Props?
ANSWER: Provide a video of it in use (if applicable), or one or more
still photo's of it in use or different angles, and be sure to provide a text
explanation of what it is, how it is made, and other good info surrounding its
use (like a summary of the storyline it was used in).
QUESTION: Should we put everything in one package (say, on one DVD), or
each entry is separate?
ANSWER: It is ok to place multiple video clips, one for each entrant. It is
also ok to place multiple entrants on one video. Be sure to include the text
explanation of whom and what you are submitting to gain maximum opportunity to
be chosen by the judges.
QUESTION: Do you take submissions from old games (is there a cutoff date?
Our first game was in 1988)?
ANSWER: We will accept submissions from old games for the first few
awards shows as more and more LARP organizations become aware of the award show. I would say that all old games are ok to submit
things. We expect the 2nd year and beyond to grow considerably in size and
participation from the community and industry.
QUESTION: Does my submission have to be from the
year 2005, or can I submit something that I have previous to that?
ANSWER: While we prefer to have submissions that are year 2005 created,
we will accept non-2005submission this year, since we just opened the awards
show up to all the LARPS and have given only 5 short months to submit entries.
QUESTION: Do you take submissions from non-fantasy LARPs? (our best games
were not fantasy-oriented)
ANSWER: Yes we do. Any type of LARP is OK. I spoke with many different
Genres’ including Star Wars LARP groups; though not all of them I am sure, about
this effort. We want all of the LARP Groups out there to submit entries.
QUESTION: Do you take submissions from a LARP based on an existing
property? (say, a Star Trek LARP, or a Star Wars LARP, or our Spirited Away
LARP)
ANSWER: Yes we do. We want submissions from these types of groups too.
Any type of LARP is OK.
QUESTION: Can we submit group photos or costumes from one game, or do we
have to single out individuals?
ANSWER: Yes, You can do just about anything you want/can to get your
submissions in, and we will accept them. You do not have to single out
individuals in your video's, or still photo's, though it would probably be best
to do so if you could. Remember to include a nice and detailed Text Explanation
of who we are looking for, what they are wearing, and the scenario by which the
shot is being taken.
Question: Do you encourage contestants to video tape there entry in
slower than normal motion?
Answer: We do encourage contestants to submit video footage from the LARP
and specific footage filmed for the LARPY Awards. Video footage always looks a
little better when the actors are moving at a good slow speed to allow the
camera to get it on tape very nicely. Often, it is best to recreate the scene
and choreograph it a bit for the video so that it looks real cool. We know that
your trying to show us the cool sequence so its ok to slow it down a bit. There
is no need to go in super slow motion though.
Question:
Where can I get a Disposable Video Camera?
Answer: Most CVS Pharmacy Stores have disposable
Video Cameras. If you need help getting them processed, feel fre to send them to
us at the Office and we will process them.
Question: Can Theatre Style LARPS submit entries for year 2006/2007 LARP
Awards?
Answer: Yes. In fact, we expect many entries from Theatre Style LARPS in
2006.
Question: Why Did We Change From Shrine to Avalon Hollywood
for the April 2006 Award Show?
Answer: We moved from the Shrine Auditorium to the Avalon
Hollywood Theatre because, after some discussion, we agreed that we hadn’t
received as many submissions as we wanted, and that there weren’t enough to
warrant using such a large theatre as the Shrine Auditorium.
We had an agreement in place with the Shrine Auditorium that allowed us until
the end of March to decide which facility we would use, and we notified them a
few days ago that we were going to use one of the other facilities.
We had looked at a few other very respectable theatres and shopped around for the best deal we
could find.The decision was
not easy, but we decided upon Avalon
Hollywood, which has everything that we need to produce an exciting
LARP Award Show.
